"PRIDE of the Community = Collaboration with the Community"

For the past decade, the UNCG University Libraries and the Martha Blakeney Hodges Special Collections and University Archives have worked with local LGBTQ+ individuals and organization to document the community's history. Originally conceived as an NEH-funded community digitization project, PRIDE of the Community has generated an extensive oral history component. The project has helped develop UNCG's blueprint for other community collaborations as well as new digitization and collection development strategies.

  • Karina Burbank, Special Collections Research Center Student Exhibit Curator, North Carolina State University, speaking about NC State Fair collection

    As the student exhibit curator for the Special Collections Research Center, Karina curated A Fair to Remember: The History of the North Carolina State Fair, which is on display at the D.H. Hill Jr. Library through the spring of 2026. The exhibit highlights the holdings of the NC State Special Collections Research Center, giving visitors insight into the well-loved institution of the State Fair. A Fair to Remember celebrates the nostalgia of the Fair, while also considering who it was made by, and who had access to the fair throughout its long history.
