Follow the handy video on our Directions and Parking page to get from the Cone visitor parking deck to Atkins Library, where you’ll find the conference registration table inside the main entrance. The web map of campus is great, but it won’t tell you that the walkway from the top level of visitor parking goes to the 2nd floor of the Cone University Center, and you’ll need to go up to the 3rd floor of Cone in order to exit the building and be on the same level as the main (first) floor of the library. Easy Peasy - if you follow the video!

3. The only availableall-gender rest room
in the library is on the ground floor - one floor below the main (first) floor. This is a consequence of floors 4-10 being closed to replace the elevators and replace them with new, ADA-compliant ones. We are very sorry for the inconvenience!
4. Where to enjoy your box lunch:If it's nice out, head over to the Cone Center Plaza. (Photo on this pageshows it in relation to the library). If not, find a spot in the library. Please be respectful of students and our maintenance staff!
5. Thursday night’s receptionis atBrewers at 4001 Yancey, located at (yep, you guessed it!) 4001a Yancey Rd Charlotte, NC, in the LoSo (Lower South End) neighborhood, once a predominantly industrial area, transformed recently into a hub for nightlife, craft beer, and entertainment. The venue offers a wide range of locally brewed beers and over 40 taps of award winning beers and cider. Nonalcoholic drinks are available as well.
Do some forest bathing (or just take a walk) in the Botanical Gardens, an entrance to which is across Mary Alexander Road from theMcMillan Greenhouse, a 7-minute walk from the library’s north entrance (which is on the ground floor, one floor below the main floor). TheGardensdraw more than 63,000 visitors each year. Try to find the gravesite of our founder, Bonnie Cone. (Yes, it’s in there!)
Take a stroll aroundHechenbleikner Lake, only a short walk from the library. To get there, just go out the library’s main (South) entrance on the main (first) floor, and keep walking forward, towards the flag pole. When you get to the street, you’ll see the lake across the street.
Check out our exhibits in the library. “Charlotte, A Hornet’s Nest of Rebellion: An Enduring Legacy from the Revolutionary War to Today,” anAmerica 250 NCattraction, is located in the atrium across from where the event sponsor tables are set up. Two others are located north of the atrium: One is about university history, and another is a permanent exhibit, “The World of Harry Golden.”
Wanna check out the reading room for Special Collections and University Archives? We don’t have one - 100 percent of our collections are digitized. Just kidding! It’s on the 10th floor and thus closed for the elevator replacement project. So we have converted a classroom to a makeshift reading room. Not much to see here until July!
