Andrea
Gabriel is the Head of the Resource Management Branch at the North
Carolina State Archives where she is responsible for grant writing
and promotion. She also supervises the Outer Banks History Center
in Manteo, a regional archive and research library with a focus on
Outer Banks history and culture. Andrea holds a B.A. in English from
Virginia Commonwealth University and an M.L.S. from Florida State
University with further graduate work in the public history program
at N.C. State University. She has worked in the corporate, non-profit,
federal and state government arenas during her library career. Andrea’s
special interest is in oral history and has conducted oral histories
for both print and radio. She also worked as an independent radio
producer in San Francisco.
On her bookshelf these days are Annie Lamott’s
Bird by Bird, which is a fine primer on life and writing,
a book of Raymond Carver’s poetry and Skinny Dip, by
Carl Hiaasen. Sadly, another summer has slipped by without finishing
Moby Dick. Andrea has studied metalsmithing and makes jewelry in her
spare time.
