Dianne
Johnson is the archivist for Wake Forest University Baptist Medical
Center in the Dorothy Carpenter Medical Archives, part of Coy C. Carpenter
Library -- all of which are in Winston-Salem, NC. She is a 1993 graduate
of Catawba College with a B.A. in English and received her M.L.I.S.
from UNC-Greensboro in 1999. Before coming to the Medical School,
she worked a year in the Winston-Salem Journal Library which
was fun (especially with Y2K) and close to her heart as a journalism
minor and former newspaper writer.
In her nearly seven years at the Medical School,
she continues to better organize (with the help of one full-time assistant)
historical documents, artifacts, and photographs from both NC Baptist
Hospital and Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Other main
duties include digitization research and implementation and creating
and mounting exhibits. She also works several hours per week on the
reference desk in the medical library to keep up her reference skills.
Her favorite parts of the job are helping researchers and learning
about the interesting tidbits of institutional history. She also likes
promoting the Archives and either meeting in-person or reading the
oral histories of the variety of alumni, such as doctors, residents,
nurses, and allied health professionals.
When she is not in the Archives, she enjoys being
with her family, participating in church activities like the handball
choir, and exercising, specifically Jazzercise and yoga. Dianne collects
anything dolphin-related (as in the marine mammal) and loves to organize
things, especially family photos. Right now, she is excited about
moving into her "dream" home with her husband of ten years
and her growing family. Another son will be joining the family in
February.
