Kevin
Cherry



Kevin Cherry is an instructor in the College of Education's Department of Library Science and Instructional Technology (LSIT) at East Carolina University. He teaches a variety of courses, including Foundations of Library Science, History of Books and Libraries, Seminar in Public Libraries, and a special topics research Seminar. A number of his students in the special topics course explore special collections issues, especially digitization of cultural heritage materials.

Kevin is a member of Joyner Library's Digital Editorial Board at ECU and the chair of the Advisory Board of North Carolina ECHO (Exploring Cultural Heritage Online). He is the former Consultant for Special Collections at the State Library of North Carolina where he was also the first project manager of NC ECHO. Before working at the State Library, he was the local history librarian at Rowan Public Library in Salisbury, NC, and served on the Legislative Research Commission on the Digitization of State Records. He is a member of the Historical Society of North Carolina, chair of the Advisory Board of the Federation of North Carolina Historical Societies, and a former chair of the Friends of the Archives. He also serves on the Executive Board of the North Carolina Library Association and is on the Council of the American Library Association. His research interests include the use of online cultural heritage materials by the schools and the use of these materials to enhance cultural heritage tourism.

Kevin grew up on a tomato farm in Denver, NC, and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, receiving a B.S. in Biology, an M.A. in History, and an M.S.L.S.,concentrating in archives and cultural heritage materials. He is currently a PhD student in the School of Information and Library Science at UNC-CH.
