Carter facilitates the work of the NCSU Libraries' Special Collections Research Center. The SCRC collects, describes, preserves and provides access to unique, rare and historical information in support of the teaching, learning and research mission of the university and the Libraries. The Center includes the University Archives, Manuscripts, Rare Books, an Outreach and Exhibits Program and Digital Collections Program.

My research interest is in the changing nature of the archival profession and managing that change.
