Meetings

SNCA's semiannual meetings are settings for lectures, seminars, workshops, and facility tours, which provide both beginner and veteran archivists the opportunity to increase their knowledge of archival trends, methods, and skills. Fees are moderate, and nonmembers are welcome to attend.

The Spring business meetings are usually held in the central part of the state, and workshops are usually offered in conjunction with the Fall meetings. Meeting sites have ranged from Wilmington, New Bern, and Greenville, to Asheville, Boone, and Charlotte. Past meetings have featured jointly sponsored SAA workshops on archival management and public relations; nationally known speakers such as George Cunha, David B. Gracy, II, and Donn C. Neal; and sessions devoted to the repair of books and other documentary materials, the storage of oversize manuscripts and maps, reference in the electronic age, and the need for disaster planning. SNCA has also held joint meetings or workshops with the NC Library Association's Round Table on Special Collections, the Southeastern Archives and Records Conference, the Federation of NC Historical Societies, and the NC Preservation Consortium.
